Hi everyone I'm starting to get worried about my beardie. He's moved home with me for Christmas Break but for about the last week or so he's slept in his rock all day. i look in the rock and I know that he sees me but he is just curled up in there. Though he does seem to peak out every now and again. He does come out for food everyday when I feed him crickets. I can drag him out by tempting him with food. After he eats crickets at night he'll stay outside under his basking lamp until it turns off for the night. Then he'll go into his rock again and curl up there.
He does poop every other day (which is changed from every day). The poop looks it's normal greenish color with white in it. My set up hasn't changed and the temperatures seem to be right in the cage. Currently my beardie is on the boarder of 11 inches. He's situated in his 20 gallon tank. When should I get him a new tank?
When I do bring him out of the cage he'll run around all over me and seems to perk up. But when he goes back in his cage he mellows out a lot. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks
Sorry one last thing. Usually his skin color is brown with tints of red but he randomly developed white streaks on his face, both sides. Is that normal coloring or a sickness or something?
I agree with the above response - it does sound like his tank is too small and the only way he can escape some of heat presumably from a spot light is by hiding in his cave!
Well i've had him since September 16, 2008. I actually measured him today and he is about a foot from head to tail. Right now he is on repti-carpet and I use a slimeline reptile fixture with a UVB light. I also use an "All Living Things" absking bulb. 75 watt. Actually turns out I turned down the heat lamp and he seemed to come out. When I measured the temperature earlier it was 100 degrees on top of the rock. So turning it down seemed to help. He's sleeping on the outside of his rock for the first time in a while and once I turned it down he seemed to hang out on his rock more. So hopefully this is fixed. But and suggestions anyways?
At a foot long you really need to upgrade that tank.
Dragons can get lethargic and depressed with an improper set up.
Dragons love room to scurry and explore.
Also how are you measuring your temperatures? IE. what with?
I turned down the temperature and he's been on his rock all day. I think I may just get him a new tank. Anyone know where I can find a 55 gallon tank for a decent price? Right now I use three thermometers and a hydrometer. Two thermometers are mounted on each side of his cage on the glass( basking side and non-basking side). A hydrometer is mounted on the glass on the basking side. I also use a digital thermometer to check the temperatures( Flukers digital thermo-hydro meter).
