I recently purchased this beardy from PetSmart. I just want to make sure this beardy is actually Pogona Vitticeps and not any other breed of bearded dragons. PetSmart employee said they get their bearded dragons between 3-6 months old.
6 inches from head to tail.
3-6 months old.

They can't be right, they are normally 3 to 6 week old when they get them. If that one is 3 months old you need to take it back because it is waaaaaaay to small for its age, lol!
Its PetSmart employees not experts so she clearly didnt know what she was talking about, Just really wanna know if the beardy is Pagona Vitticeps. THXXXXXXXX )))

HI Brandeis, your baby is adorable it is a Pagona Vitticeps (Latin Genus and species) primarily because those are the only ones Petsmart carries. It looks like you did get what THEY refer to as a fancy dragon because of his markings which are lovely by the way, but it doesn't change his base Genus and species. There are about 8 other species of bearded dragons but most of them u can't buy thru any legal pet trade.
Petsmart employees tell ppl the company line of 3to 6 month old dragons, after a phone call to their headquarters last month, I found out the top of the chain just plain lies. Thank u for saving a beautiful dragon from Petsmart!!!!!
Occasionally you can find an oddball barbata. Not sure how they end up in the US without having bloodlines diluted with vittaceps. I have only seen two in the last 30 years. Sadly the last one I saw was horribly sick and died.
Rankins are out there but they are kind of hard to obtain and prices are usually a bit expensive. I have 5 of them and trying to grow them up for breeding. They are getting close to being sexually mature.
But yes you do have a pretty P. Vittaceps.
(Edit oops, forgot to mention I did force brumate them all even though they may be too young...I think a brumation period is healthy for all of them so I even brumated the smaller ones. I do it with all my reptiles)
