English and spelling were my two worst subjects in school 😉😁
Thats funny. English used to be my best subject, but since taking extra classes to graduate early and taking collage classes Financial Literacy and Marketing 1 have become my best classes lol. I still love English though. Math on the other hand...icky...

I noticed that in many languages any object or living creature can be turned into the same thing, only small and cute. To do this, just add a few letters to the end of the word. Taco - Taquito, Eidechse - Eidechslein. I tried to find such a rule for the English language, but I couldn't. I wonder if there is something similar in English? (usually to turn something into small and cute I use the adjective little, but this is not quite what is needed and only affects the size of someone or something)
in German it's actually "-chen" and "-lein". There not a general rule but for native speaker it's quite obvious which word goes with which.
In Chile, the diminutive ("-ito", "-ita", "-cita") can even be used when it seems totally out of place. Like once we were on a group hike, and the tour guide announced that now a "fotocita" is made. Also a "cafecita" can be a totally normal coffee, not just a small one.
We have a habitat of substituting words to. Interchangeably don't really matter as long as the context works. A beardie for sure isn't a pie in the previous example, but in that context everyone understands what is meant.
Yes, I've also recognized that (lived and worked for a bit more than 7 years in the U.S.). Also: Keeping how somebody (human, animal, pet) was called when younger to show affection. When the girlfriend is a "baby", when your grown-up dog is a "puppy". In Germany, we won't do it that way; for sure not your beloved grown-up dog is a "Welpe" (German word for a "puppy" with only meaning of a young dog) or your girlfriend a "Säugling". Would be hyper weird. Just the "Baby" sneaked in to show affection to the partner - likely adapted from songs and Hollywood movies.
The substitute btw. can also be used in German: The beloved little daughter, or the partner, could be a "Maus" (mouse), "Spatz" (sparrow) or "Herzchen" (little heart), for example. It's just not done as much as in the U.S., from what I've seen and is a bit old-fashioned.

Math works for me. It's technical and I'm technical minded (life long mechanic) so it just makes sense to me.

I agree with you, I also like mathematics, logic and physics, and I also have a technical mindset. Yes, studying language and literary works at school was a "problem" for me. :ROFLMAO:

The same for me. (I'm into "art" if it's drawing or constructing something. I love building scale models from scratch, for example. I'm not into music, drama, anything done on the body (like make-up art) or similar things.)

I'm okay with languages in the way of "learning a language", and I also got into reading really early and I loooove to read. Never bad grades for literature or languages.
But I'm just not a "language person" in the way of: Giving a speech, interacting with customers, providing nice-sounding translations, talking on the radio... no way. Also wouldn't chose to learn a language as a hobby - I learn languages only for practical reasons. For fun, I learn technical things.
It was super clear for me, whatever kind of education I might do/ my job requires (without college, with college, with PhD): technical and nothing else.

Some from my group in college had chosen to go into what is called "science communications". They are now happily (I think that's important!) talking about the moon and the stars and rockets to school children.
I myself had decided for astroinformatics and astroengineering. I have a office on my own (no distraction, no chit-chat) and spend my day with typing in code, checking measurements, and if I need to ask somebody I'm sending out a brief e-mail. Students say I'm the one who'd explain precisely and clear and is shy/ introvert. I think that tells the difference. When I go home, you pretty likely will find me reading Sci-Fi, fixing something or similar.
As a student, I always had side jobs of the kind "no customers, working on my own quietly in my office or from home". Like working the night shift in a data center, fixing software and hardware ASAP if something goes wrong. For sure not at the checkout counter or as a bartender, no way.

The only classes I did good in were science or trade (carpentry, electricity, welding, ect) everything else you couldn't keep me in a seat lol.

Looks like you're talking about me lol
I am still interested in carpentry and try to do all the work in the house related to electricity or plumbing myself.

School insisted I'd do internship in a bank :D Outcome: I found it boring (as of: nothing to fix, explore or develop), stressful (all the people!), and they found me boring (no chit-chat, trying to spend breaks alone to at least during breaks having a chance to get away from people).
I was then allowed to end the internship sooner to have more of the summer break ;) :D
(Which kindly means: Thrown out as just won't hire for an apprenticeship/ college and work. Just wasn't said that harshly as "fired" as I didn't behave "bad" but it just wasn't a good fit. I didn't mind, as I was already sure working at a bank, or at another related office job that's not technical, that's not what I want to do.)

Yup. Absolutely! I couldn't imagine not being self sufficient. It's extremely rare I hire anyone for anything.

Thats so cool! My beardie's name is Mirage! We named him this because when we first got him we would let him roam and we would look away for just a moment. Then, poof, he's gone. I honestly thought I was imagining him sometimes lol.

As for a middle name; Mirage also has one (well more than one lol). His full name is Mirage Arroyo Qibli Wiegand lol. Weird I know.
Lol it’s a lil long but nice name

@hdochow Heyyyyyy how have you been?
we're doing freaking amazing around here! my daughter and I graduated from college back in June 2023 (can't remember if that is before or after i saw you around here last.) i run the maintenance department for a vacation rental company, covering just about 100 properties with 9 more in the works in the near future. she is taking care of our house and we joke that she is my "housewife". with her autism, this was a HUGE step for her as she had never been home alone more than an hour or two prior to me starting work. she's about to turn 26 next week and is thriving in her new role. to us, what she does is just as much a job as what i do. it takes us both to make our household work. SUPER PROUD MOMMA HERE!!!

i also am on the scholarship foundation board for our local AAUW branch. (American Association of University Women). as the treasurer, i get to write the checks to help send young women and girls to college. this year we awarded 9 scholarships for a total of $13,000. 6 are the first generation in their family to ever go to college. gotta love the feeling of that!!!

sir henry of scales continues to be a salad whore and still hardly eats any bugs. he broke 600g the other day. the vet doesn't like his weight that high, but i won't starve him. it's just about slow down time and he always bulks up, then loses again by spring. he's following his trend lines so i'm not worried at all, the vet can bite me! he just finished shedding with the exception of one spot on the base of his tail. that spot is usually pretty think and takes the longest.

taela the parakeet is doing great too. we're trying to get him to eat a bigger variety of foods, but he's having none of it! the stink eye we get as he picks whatever out of his broccoli and drops it on the bottom of his cage is hilarious! he'll pick something up, look you dead in the face, and drop it. right now we're seeing if broccoli sprouts might work. after a couple weeks he is at least digging through them to get to his broccoli instead of flinging them all over the place.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
