ok so my black light for my beardie went out and i went to the local pet shop which i have never had problems with and they did not have any more black lights ... i live in a basement and it can get 60 at night right now so i needed some heat .... he always sleeps on his hammock been like that for 5 months now and he did not sleep under the light last night. the lady at the shop said they cant see red and that would be ok ... it seemed like he was still awake for a while and he did not sleep on hammock ... is the infrared lights ok for night time or should i just stick with the black and keep that one as a backup ?
It says on the packaging that beardies can't see red lights but research has shown that they can. I would stick to what you know works for your beardie. i use a ceramic heater with a habistat thermostat so the temps can be turned down at night
they can see the red and the black. Ideally you'll want a ceramic heat emitter. they give off no light. If your basement gets too cold you could always use maybe an electric heater in the room if you have one already. You only need to raise the temps a few degrees so low would probably work, and since you'd only need it on for a few hours it probably wouldn't make a huge difference in your electric bill.
my beardie has grown up with a black light and loves it. He goes right under it at night time and passes out. This may not be the case for every beardie though. My friend has one and will not close his eyes to the black light.
mine passed out on the spot with the black light .... with the infrared one my beardie was trying to hunt a cricket that was left behind from dinner ........
