As you know my two beardies have been with me for a little over 3 days. I don't know if its just me but one of my little guys is acting strange. First of all he is eating great (10 crickets in one serving) but I noticed a large attitude change. Just a day ago he let me pick him up with only a tiny bit of casing around (I had to follow him with my hand for about 6 inches.) Now all of a sudden when I put my hand in the tank to put so crickets in and he runs behind a rock. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with stress.
1.Or is it stress related?
2.Was he stressed before and now he is normal or was he normal and now he is stressed?
Tongue Twister
3. Is this normal behavior and he is just really skittish.
4. Could he be tamed down.
First of all remember that these beardies are still getting used to you, their new tank and the surrounding area. They are going to be skittish and want to hide at first.
1. Is his colouring darker and does he just hide when someone is in his tank? If his colouring is light then he's not stressed, if he's out and moving around when your not in the tank then it's just you he's hiding from
2. Depends on the answer to question 1
3. It's normal, even after 4 years of owning a beardie mine still likes to hide at times and I have to move things to get to him
4. Yes your beardie can be tamed down more, keep handling daily and don't let him away with anything! If he hides find him, if he runs catch him every time. If you let him away with something then he will think he can do it every time.
My little guy is showing his bearded, gaping and arm circling. :love5: Its so cute. He does it when the crickets are released in the cage. Then he attacks them. He is getting pretty plump!!!!!
Sounds like your baby is growing up! It‘s nothing to worry about, they will puff out their beard for no reason (excersizing those muscles), arm wave or head bob (a survival instinct) and generally take care of themselves.
