So lilly hasn't eaten for about a week. And she will open her mouth and shake her body for a couple secs. This worries me be aide this is how firecracker acted couple hours before he passed. I'm keeping close eye on her I'm hoping I can convince her to eat tomorrow. Can somebody pls let me know what would cause this and help me, I don't know what to do. Lilly is only couple months old and about 7 long. I have her in 10 gal tank stays between 100-108 in her tank hut mostly 104
Im sorry to hear that this is happening. One thing id like to mention is that a 10gal tank is too small even if its only 7in long. There isnt a good enough temperature gradient in that size tank. You should get at least a 20gal. What is your lighting setup, including uvb source? Have you tried baby food yet? What is it that you are trying to feed her? have you had her tested for parasites? If not, i highly recommend doing so.
I feed her pin sized crickets. She was doing very well with those. Around 20-50 a day. She suppers eating I still offer her crickets. Calci worms and her salad ( cucumbers mixed with mustard greens and collard greens) and I'm transferring her into 40 gal tomorrow hopefully. I use reptisin 10.0 for UVB and 100 watt heat balb. Cool side stays around 75.
The biggest probability would be parasite or worm infestation.
Are you using the tube bulb of the Reptisun 10 or the compact/coil light? How far is the light from him?
I would suggest trying to find a larger tank for him, as the 10 gallon is very difficult to maintain a good gradient in there for him, maybe at least a 30 gallon if possible?
The critical care should help him. Try to get some extra oral fluids into him, as well.
Let us know how he is doing.
Im getting a 40 gal tank today but won't b able to set it up til tomorrow. She seems to be hanging on but is weak. She barely opens her eyes even when ibpick her up. She has feces stuck on her butt so I'm going to try to get that off without hurting her. I'm going to give her a warm bath to see if that helps any. The hornworms came today so I'm going to give them a try. I ordered baby hornworms baby silkworms and butterworms. She can eat those bc their soft bodied, right?
the best thing for a baby dragon is small crickets. They have lots of proteins and soft shells. I would not feed any worms other than reptiworms.
Your uvb tube needs to be 7-10 inches from your dragon. This is important and will stimulate healthy bones, calcium processing and appetite. bath him in shoulder deep luke warm water for 20 mins. If he poops clean the water and put him back in. They get hydration from this.
Also dust his crickets with calcium powder 5 times a week and 2 times a week with vitamin powder.
At the moment, I would begin feeding baby food feedings right now to ensure that she gets enough food into her since she is not really eating anything right now.
How is she doing today, any improvements at all yet?
No improvements she's been hiding under her log all day bit atleast she's not all dark like yesterday. I will start babyfood tonight. She seems like she's doing ok.
Sorry you beardie is not doing well. I meant to express that in my other post but flaked on it.
No one has asked....what are you using to measure temps? A 100W must be overheating that 10 gallon tank. I use a 100w in a 40g and get the right temps. Are you using the stick on types, or digital or what?
If you're using the stick on's they are inaccurate and don't really measure in the right place. The most accurate way to measure is with a temp gun or a digital therm with a probe on a wire. The probe should go directly on the basking spot.
Is it possible she is impacted? When is the last time she pooped and does she poop regularly?
You stated this:
but I'm not really sure what you meant. Have you fed her superworms? Those could definately cause an impaction in a small dragon. What are you using as substrate? If it is sand or other particulate substance, that could contribute to an impaction as well.
Haha sorry suppers should be refuses, she refuses to eat. Stupid auto correct. But I am using paper towels as substrate and messages temps with digital therm. It doesn't have a probe tho so I just sit it by basking spot. Im getting a 40 gal hopefully by sat, it's at my moms it's just getting therectp get it. Is squash baby food ok?
