This summer in early June my family is going to Florida for two weeks. I live around the Cleveland area in Ohio, so as you now know I will be flying across the country. I have some problems that I need solved.
Food- First off you should know that I have a whites tree frog too. How can I make sure my beardie's veggies stay good at the vet's for two weeks? Also my beardie eats WAY more than my tree frog and my tree frog only eats crickets, what could I give my beardie on top of the veggies and crickets so he and my frog will have something to eat? The problem is my frog only eats crickets. I was thinking about getting a lot of repti worms for them to have, what you think about that?
Everything else is set. I am getting the proper sized tank for my beardie to stay in, because there is no way in heck I can transport my 75 gallon and the sand that is in it on a 45 minute car ride. I am getting liquid calcium supplement to go on my bearide's salad since he is going to be eating a lot of that. I also am going to get some bearded dragon diet too. I know that June is a while away, but I need to be ready for anything and everything. I am going to split the boarding cost with my parents. Its $20.00 for a night per herp. Also I have to buy my beardie a tank to be boarded in so I am going to need to work hard and save up my money. So I am guessing I am going to spend $300.00 on this whole affair. Right now I have nearly $150.00 there are also things I buy for me herps on a regular basis so that's why I need so much time.
If anyone has any advice or ideas for me about boarding my beardie I am all ears.
just a few ideas for you, they may or may not work for you....
Now i've never had to board my dragons so like i said, this may not work but it is an idea....
as for the veggies, maybe you buy 2 bags of whatever you feed him, pre mix it all up for them and put one day's worth of veggies in seperate ziplock bags, maybe do a weeks worth, then you can leave the 2nd bag all sealed up so it wont go bad and if htey need it they can open it up and give it to him and maybe it would stay good until you got back to pick them up... what do you think?
as for hte meat part of the diet, maybe try the reptiworms (do a trial first my beardies wont eat them or phoenix worms) if they will eat one of those just take those with them as (if i remember they can be a staple) if they dont like those and you want a worm to take i read a lot of good things about hornworms, and i use supers (they are great) or if you can get you some dubia roaches they are WONDERFUL, lots of meat and protein so your beardie will only need a few (Juuji can eat 6 per sitting so she eats about 10-12 a day)
then using one or two of those plus the greens will be good for your beardie and the froggie can have the crickets
Thanks for the ideas. Your right repti worms can be used as a staple. I could also feed them to my frog. I can get 10% off repti womrs because I am a member of the Reptile Channel. I also like the veggie idea. Although once they are cut up they don't last long.
