I am so excited! I wasn't planning on getting another beardie but my bf saw an ad on CL yesterday that had a 2 year old, mostly blind beardie named Ray. I knew immediately that I wanted to give him a good home. Tonight she emailed to say I could have him...for FREE! She just wanted him to have a good home! I am going to clean and sterilize the 35 gallon tank I have in the garage (to get him started) tomorrow after work and make a run to the store for the things he will need. I hope to bring him home in a couple days...as soon as I get his setup perfect. I will be posting pics of our new addition soon!
Did they name him Ray before they found out he was blind? His name makes me think of Ray Charles and now I'm picturing a beardie with sunglasses, playing the piano. He sounds like his owner really cares for him and I can't wait to see some pictures!
Well, I just talked to the owner and I will be picking him up tomorrow! I am very psyched! I found a 4ft long vivarium for 25 dollars on Craigslist. I am setting it up tonight. I will post pics tomorrow night. And yes...he is named after Ray Charles...LOL
Ray is now in his new home! He was very chill in the car ride home. Very sweet guy. I think he is a bit thin. I can feel his spine and hip bones but I will fatten him up before long. I fed him a big salad of escarole, carrots, blueberries, and a few wax worms. Crickets were the main course.
Aw, that's cute about his name. I'm interested in how he catches the crickets if he has vision problems. Some animals can see perfectly fine and have such an awkward time catching feeders. He is a good looking beardie for sure!
Thanks!! I fell in love from the start. He is quite the snuggler already. It surprised me a bit since she said she didn't handle him much plus he just met me. But he snuggled into my neck and went to sleep. It's actually pretty amazing to watch him eat. He can see movement or shadows at least because he did get his fill of crickets. I did notice that I had to move his salad a bit to get him to realize it was food and when he did...he dug his whole face into the bowl. He ate very well.
and i'm glad you got him for free (i hate reading about people having to pay an absurd amount of money to rescue a beardie). can't wait to see more pictures of Ray!
