Hi, I've had my bearded dragon, Waffles, for about a year and three months now. She was young when I got her so she's probably about a year and 4 or 5 months old.
For the last 2 weeks she's been a lot more active than normal. She runs around her tank and glass surfs. Normally she isn't that active and often spends a lot of the day lounging around. She's also been pooping once or twice a day with very watery poops. The poop and urate is usually formed well, though is smaller. Normally she would poop once or twice a week, so this is very abnormal for her. But now I've been having to clean the tank and Waffles once or twice a day because she will run through her poop and drag it across her enclosure.
I've got a 40gal with tile for substrate. I have a long uvb bulb and a 75w for the basking light. The basking spot is about 105F with the warm side about 80F and the cooler side about 74F. Not sure how accurate the temps are because the infrared temp gun I have is the tiny zoomed one. But the basking spot is warm and not hot, since I can keep my hand on it.
She's been eating mostly collard greens. I've been bad about giving her crickets and other insects as of late and keep forgetting to do so. But I dust the collard greens as well as bugs when I give them to her. She used to be bad about eating her vegetables but since November I've managed to get her to eat most of the vegetables I give to her.
I've tried to look up what could be the problem, and the only thing that seems to fit all her symptoms is maybe she's gravid? Her poop isn't terribly foul and she's the opposite of lethargic right now.
She could just be going through a hyper phase. Possibly gravid but not necessarily. Look for digging behavior associated with that. Did she slow down a bit over the past few months? My guy usually goes crazy coming out of brumation and it's just temporary and hormonal. The frequent poops are probably related if that's the case. At her age it's OK that she's eating mostly veges. My adult gets one or two bug meals per week but mostly eats veges. You don't have to add calcium supplement to the salads as those are naturally nutritious and don't need supplementation the way bugs do.
Yeah, I haven't seen any sort of digging behavior. She just runs around in her tank and surfs the glass. I didn't think she brumated yet, since she was lounging outside her hide. She has had something like this before, but it lasted only a few days. And thanks for the little tip about not needing the calcium on her veggies. I guess I will just let her do her thing, then.
