Hi all ~ KittyKitty jumped from my chair back today and landed on the wood floor. He appears perfectly normal, no visible damage to legs or body. Is there anything I should look for, that would indicated a problem? He's quite the jumper, and one time he jumped from the chair back into his cage! I guess I'd better have a harness for him. Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!
Don't let the little skydiver, cliff hanger up high! LOL jk
I would just keep an eye on his mobility, if he seems to favor 3 limbs over another 1, or doesn't seem to use 1 limb, the typical things you would look for in a cat or dog. Along with, loss of appetite, dark coloration lasting for long periods of time, lethargy.
When these guys take a plunge like that, they tend to flatten out and land on the floor like a pancake with a like sound.
Anyways doing this spreads the contact surface of their body out and in turn will spread out the shock wave. If they were to land on one leg, just as an example this would keep the impact isolated to one specific area and would be more likely to cause injury.
All in all sounds like it is time for a padded room for the little jumper.
Thank you for the great information. posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=140116# KittyKitty seems to be ok, and not showing any of the signs you mentioned. I didn't know they jumped! The first time, he was on my shoulder as I sat at my computer (where he normally snoozes) all of a sudden he turned around and jumped right into his terrarium! posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=140116#He seemed pleased with his leap, and I sat all amazed. I wish I knew how old he is; he came from a couple other homes, and no one seems to have any information.
I tried to put pictures of our little guy on the site, but they didn't go ~ I guess I need some help getting a pic on. It's almost midnight here in southern IN, so I will try tomorrow.
