hi everyone, I live in New York City and for the past two weeks it's been extremely humid, some days it was getting up to 90% humidity. I could tell it was affecting my beardie because he has become less active than he usually is.
i bought a small dehumidifier but it hasn't done much difference, the humidity in the tank is around the 60s and 70s. I'm scared it can lead to a URI so, I have a fan set up in his direction so it helps a little.
my question is, what's the best way to keep the humidity low in his enclosure? people that live in humid places how do you guys keep it in the 30s or 40s?
You don't need to keep the humidity that low. Since the high humidity outside is temporary, increasing airflow like you've done is your best bet. Tank humidity in the 60s is fine as their natural habitat has areas that get that high on a regular basis.
Was actually just thinking about the same thing, as I am in NYC as well and getting a new dragon in the coming week - I was told by my first dragons breeder (kandy mispaugh of kandies dragons) that occasional bits of time at even high humidity's are acceptable as long as it is not their frequent environment, very much like saying "hey it rains there too sometimes doesn't it?" Hope you're having a great day!
