I bought this at a thrift store to build a temporary enclosure until I can get all the materials to build a 4ftx2ftx2ft. I would be taking the shelf out and sanding the paint off, adding vent for airflow, put a hole in the top to mount the basking lamp, mount the uvb inside, and i would also like to put sliding doors on front.
How what would i use to seal the wood after sanding and what would be the best way to go about putting the doors on front?
You can seal it with latex paint or with a couple of coats of polyurethane. Just be sure to give it plenty of time to dry completely before use. As far as the door goes, you can set them up a few different ways. I like putting the hinges on the bottom and the latch on top so the door drops down and out of the way. You could also put in a track and have two sliding doors that allow access to one half at a time. If you put the hinges on the sides, you can have the doors open outward and latch in the center. That part is more personal preference than anything.
