Hello! My boyfriend and I got a juvenile bearded dragon almost a week ago, and recently he has become very skittish. He was fine with us petting him and let us pick him up a couple of times, but yesterday and today he won't let us touch him. He runs away when we get close. I'm going to let him be the rest of the day but I'm hoping that he won't be scared of us from now on. Is there anything else we can do to try to get him used to us and help reduce any stress that he is having?
At the moment he sees the hand as a predator by instinct.( esp if you have a top opening tank ).
Place a desireable looking live worm in your upturned hand and place it where he can see the worm.
He'll soon learn to associate the hand with something nice and learn not to fear your hand. rn
I do this with wild gecko, skinks, dragons, birds and frogs ,works are treat, a bit of patience and they soon learn not to fear me.
