Hey all I recently bought some phoenix worms at my local reptile store after reading on here they are super good for bearded dragons. However I cannot for the life of me get my bearded dragon Lizard to eat them. He just stares at them, but I put him in with some crickets and he's all over them.
Any help on getting him to at least try to eat these?
just try to put on in at a time and make sure that you put it right in front of him Once it starts wriggling around then he will eat. once he does, he will love it...
He doesn't eat them from just putting them in front of them. I'm thinking I need to deprive him of crickets for a day or two until he gets hungry.
Anyway he's just been put under a MVB bulb after 6 months of improper lighting so I'm praying he gets a bigger appetite he eats about 5 medium crickets daily.
How old is your beardie? Does he enjoy basking under the MVB? What MVB do you have, how far away is it from your beardie when she is basking & what are the basking & cool side temps. Also, what type of thermometer are you using to check them?
She's under a zoomed powersun 100w MVB, I'm not exactly sure of temps I'm going to be buying a thermometer soon, but I have spent in excess of 300 dollars in the past month to buy the light, a 55 gallon tank, and all the different kinds of dragon food, as well as the worms and stuff.
I know when I turn on the second light which is a halogen bulb he moves away from his basking spot and goes down to the ground or away from the light so I think that is much too warm, but with just the MVB on he sits under it pretty much all day. I've tried holding them up to his face everything he doesn't want them, I'm thinking he just needs to get hungry enough, but if anyone has a way to stimulate their appetite it would be helpful
Try to put the worm in a contrast color container, for example black, so the worm can be seen clearly. I introduced Billie with phoenix worm a few months ago. She didn't seem to like them at first, but now PW is her #1 favorite food.
Wow, well he finally got hungry enough to try one today after about 36 hours without crickets, he chomped one, then about an hour later he ate 20 large! This is pretty good considering he only would normally eat about 5 medium crickets a day. I'm hoping the new lighting he has is improving his appetite and soon I'll have a nice healthy lizard.

Yay!!!
Billie (she is just 12 inches) will eat about >50 medium PW in one sitting, and still wants more... Today I introduced her with butterworm, she loves it... did not want to try it at first, but finally she that it was a food.
