Was given poor advice at a pet store...no surprise. .. and told that w a heat lamp and calcium supplement dustings my husbands new baby besrdie would be fine for two weeks. Its been five days and we are nine away before pay day. Worried that along with bad cricket size advice it can get sick.
The crickets should be no bigger than the space between the beardie's eyes. You will need a ReptiSun 10 TUBE bulb to span 2/3 the length of the tank. Do not get a coil bulb. They hurt their eyes. 14 days, plus the time it will take to ship is kinda pushing the envelope for not having UVB, but should be okay. My Petsmart has the Reptisun 10 (not 5) tube, but they cost more than online at Amazon or petmountain.com. Hope this helps!
First of all thanks! Now I knew about the cricket size but second guessed myself and went with what she said. Smh. He seems healthy eating and pooping I'm worried about lack of uv. In nine days it will have a bulb I already have a fixture. I learned so much this last week on the forum alone. Very glad I joined. Thank yo for your reply. Now if I can figure out how to post pics here I will be set.
15 days is pushing it a bit, imo. But, if you have to you have to.
I don't know where you are, but if you get any warmer days
(mid 70's...hard to find in North America this time of year, but ...)
you can take him outside and let him soak up natural sunlight.
About an hour of natural sunlight is equal to a full day of artificial UV exposure.
We have been moving its tank to the window they days its sunny. Hoping it helps meanwhile. He is eating exploring changing and poopi g pretty well. So so far so good.
