I wanted to know what is the best way of housing crickets? I am thinking about using a 20 gallon plastic non see thru tub to house them in. I just wanted to know if there are any other things I should prep for their housing. Also where is the best place to order like 500 to 1000 crickets? I was thinking about ordering them from http://www.premiumcrickets.com/ as I think that site has been mentioned on here before. I'll probably order their crickets along with their kricket complete so I'll have food and water for them. Any help from ya'll will be very appreciated. Thanks.
I used a 20g tank with mesh top. A big plastic bin will work just as well. You'll want a well ventilated top for it. If you put it on a baker's rack or other ventilated shelf, you can put an under tank heater under it to provide heat in the winter if needed (they seem to prefer being over 70 degrees). Inside the tank I put down wood chips (optional) because I found it helped with the stink and made the tank easier to clean. I put in a bunch of paper towel and toilet paper tubes for them to live in (makes it easier to shake them out) and provided peanut butter lids - 1 full of water crystals and 1 full of grain feed and/or fresh veggie scraps. I used premiumcrickets for my supply and liked them very much. Just be sure to microwave the grain feed when it arrives if you order it so you can kill off any grain mites that may be in the feed. It's a huge pain to get rid of them if they infest your tank.
