I have a 7 or 8 month old bearded dragon he is 10 to 12
inches long. He is in a tank that is 36 inches by 18 inches. I have only had him for a few days how do you tell if he is a bearded dragon or a fancy bearded dragon. I cannot figure out how to add a picture appear so if anyone can please tell me I will add a picture so you can help me determine
The only people who use the word "fancy" are pet stores such as petco or petsmart. They don't know the difference between hypo, trans, leather, silk, or normal scale. For this reason, if anything is out of the ordinary, they put the word "fancy" to it and up the price.
You can get citrus beardies with high yellow and hypo-reds (with a lot of bright red/orange colouration). Tiger morphs have more defined stripes on the backs than normal. Silk/leather backs have much smoother backs than normal, but as a result don't have much of a beard (I refer to them as shaved dragons  ). Any of these could be considered 'fancy', which is quite non-specific. Then there are german giants, which are just massive!
Normal phase dragons are typically just plain grey or brown and usually sold for cheaper. Personally I believe the normal phase dragons are better in the long run as they are less prone to genetic disorders from selective breeding, but thats just my opinion!
