I have been doing ALOT of reading on here. I KNOW that the sun bulbs are good. I might get a megaray bulb. I can tell I can see a bit of a diffrence in how he acting after I turned off the glo bulb. If I where you I would get a sun bulb. My dragon would hold his eye closed for about 5sec then open it again. He has stopes doing this now that I don't have that glo bulb in his tank anymore.

The bulb could be affecting his eyes then. Here's some problems that have been associated with that bulb and it helps to explain all of it in detail: [ Invalid URL Removed / p= t=68333 f=34 ]

Hi, in order to continue using that bulb for a short period of time, there are some safeguards that you should follow, although I wouldn't suggest that you continue to use it for as long as 5 months.

1. You should make sure he can't get any closer than 10 inches from it no matter where he is laying in the tank.
2. Please make sure that you are using a bright white basking bulb as that helps counteract the glare/damage that the bulb gives off.
3. Make sure that the UVB and basking bulb are right alongside each other on top of the tank.

If you notice any eye symptoms at all or he starts acting lethargic or just doesn't act like himself, please turn the light off right away and not use any for a few days until you can get the Repti-Sun 10.0 fluorescent. Even a Repti-Sun 5.0 or Repti-Glo 8.0 would be safer than the one you have now, but neither of them is as good a bulb as the Repti-Sun 10.0. Hope this helps.

So Andy, you are noticing a difference already? Isn't that something. By the sun bulbs, you're talking about Megaray and T-Rex? Those are the 2 best mercury vapor bulbs you can buy. Something to keep in mind though is that you need a minimum of a 40 gallon tank in order to be able to use one because they are strong & also throw out a lot of heat. With a 100 watt MVB, your beardie needs to be a minimum of 12 inches from it and with a 160 watt, he needs to be a minimum of 18 inches from it.

When I mean sun bulb I am talking about the repti-sun 10.0. I have just seen the difference in not having the glo on his tank. I would LOVE a mega-ray in my custom viv that I am going to build.

Oh, ok, some refer to the MVB's as "sun bulbs" as they mimic the sun's rays better than any other. I have a 100 watt in one of the tanks and Sabrina and I are both very happy with it. :p

Right now I have a ReptiGlo 5.0. What are the bulb differences between 5.0 and 10.0? My babies seem fine under the RG 5.0. But I'm planning on switching over to the MVB because I don't think that they are getting enough of the UV because they sit under the heat lamps instead. But what's the difference?

I got the bulb today. WOW that bulb is BIG! I am thinking of buying a duel light from lowes so I can have the UBV light and a plain white lightbulb.

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hey! We’re the same age! That’s cool!
