I have that bulb for my 4 year old guy. He seems to be ok. From time to time he will close one eye for no more than 5 sec then open it again. He does this ever when is out of his viv. I can get the sun from pet Mt. IF I HAVE TO, but then I am out 22 from the glo 10 bulb.

I can get a sun 10 24" from our local petco but its 45+tax! I was kind of stupid and didn't add the sun to my pet Mt. order that I made for his Cal and Vitamins.

So will he be ok till I can get the sun or even the mega ray which could be anywhere from next month to 5 month?
Is there anything I can do to keep him safe?
He can get a close as 5" and at the farthest 13 or 14". there is also a "tent" that he can go into if he want to that is just a half a cardboard box.

LOVE It here. You guys have helped me SO MUCH. I am going to post a intro here tomorrow sometime.

Hi, in order to continue using that bulb for a short period of time, there are some safeguards that you should follow, although I wouldn't suggest that you continue to use it for as long as 5 months.

1. You should make sure he can't get any closer than 10 inches from it no matter where he is laying in the tank.
2. Please make sure that you are using a bright white basking bulb as that helps counteract the glare/damage that the bulb gives off.
3. Make sure that the UVB and basking bulb are right alongside each other on top of the tank.

If you notice any eye symptoms at all or he starts acting lethargic or just doesn't act like himself, please turn the light off right away and not use any for a few days until you can get the Repti-Sun 10.0 fluorescent. Even a Repti-Sun 5.0 or Repti-Glo 8.0 would be safer than the one you have now, but neither of them is as good a bulb as the Repti-Sun 10.0. Hope this helps.

well, after some thinking I when ahead and bit it and JUST order the Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Bulb 24"

I want what is best for him. I am just kicking my self for buying that stupid POS bulb. I think I should get the new bulb sometime mid week. I am going to see if the store will at lest give me store credit for the other bulb. With that I am going to buy more reptile carpet, I cleaned the piece that I had in there today and he is on paper towels for the night and I think I am going to get a leash for him so when it get a bit warmer here he can go outside and get some sunlight. What else would be a good buy for him?
I LOVE this guy. His viv is in my room so we are room mates. :)

I am going to go post a intro about myself and him and my family.

THANKS SOOOO MUCH!

I'm glad that you went ahead & ordered the Repti-Sun 10.0. Petmountain is a great company to deal with and have great customer service. You should have the bulb in less than a wk. I would still recommend that you move that bulb so that it is 10" from him though. And follow the other suggestions that I made, I know you want to do what is right for him. Will watch for your Intro thread.

The store took the bulb back with no problem. I went ahead and bought more carpet so now I have 2,one in tank the other one is clean and ready for when I need to clean the other one. I also got a leash for him so I can take him outside when its warm and I tryed a 75w zoo med basking bulb but it was not putting out near as much light or heat as the flood is.

Will he be ok till the bulb comes this week? I have Cal supplement (rept-cal with D3) that I will put on his food and worm. How may times should be get Cal and vitamins?

Thanks

That's good that the petstore gave you a refund for the other bulb. What size tank is he in and what are the basking & cool side temps? The only 2 ways to get an accurate temp reading is with either a temperature gun or a digital thermometer with a long wire & a probe on the end. If you are using any type of stick on thermometer, like a strip, round gauge or digital (without probe) then the temps could be off by as much as 20 degrees.

Did you decide to leave the Repti-Glo turned on or did you turn it off? Since your beardie is an adult, you should be dusting 3 days a wk with calcium with D3 but phosphorus-free but only 1 feeding a day and with vitamins 1 day a wk.

I have a repti glo 10.0. I found out it was a bad bulb so i bought a UVB from pet mountain. It was repti sun 10.0. After I put in the light, he became lethargic and stopped eating. He barely opened his eyes. I switched to repti glo. He was happier than ever. :blob5:

Hayley, you mentioned in one of your other threads that you bought the Repti-Sun 10.0 coil/compact bulb rather than the strip fluorescent. So, that's why your beardie had a problem with his eyes. All coil/compact bulbs are dangerous. This thread was actually to discuss the Repti-Glo 10.0 tube.

We really do recommend that ALL coil and compact bulbs are NOT used. I know that you lost a beardie a short time ago, we just want what is best for your Zinger and all other beardies.

He is in a 3' tank. I am working on plans to build a custom viv.

His basking temp is 104* his cool side is about 75-80*, night temps are around 70-65*. Temps are taken with a digital thermometer with a probe.
He does not have a UVB light. I took it back to the store. I have Reti-Cal's phosphorus-free Cal. with D3. I will have the new bulb here sometime mid-week or by the end of the week.

Ok, just wondered. Temps sound good too. Not sure where you live but if the weather is still 70 or above where you are, you could take him outside for about 20 min or so daily if you are worried about him not having a UVB until it arrives.

Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
