Hello! I recently gave my baby beardie a hornworm, ( bought from petstore, so no toxins). She loved it! And I was told that they are very healthy for bearded dragons. The person says that if you feed them one on a monday, they won't need any more insects until the next week, is this true? And if so, are hornworms easy to raise/breed once they are moths? :?
Hornworms are good to include along with a rotation of feeders in the diet. How many they get really depends on their age and how hungry they are. There isn't a set amount. As far as feeders go they are generally pretty healthy. I haven't tried raising them so I can't say much on that.
Thanks I think I'll try and order a container of 75. Do you think refrigerating them would stunt their growth so they will stay small enough to feed my baby?
You don't want to refrigerate them too much. If you give them a couple of days in a wine cooler (55-65 or so) and then a day or two out and then repeat they are usually OK and their growth is slowed. Their growth will slow with limited food too.
