im planning on breeding my beardie in the future. i have done alot of research and one of the things im really interested/ curious about is the incubators. so far from what ive read the exo terra seems pretty good, but does anyone with expirience have any better options. Also i was wondering about a homemade incubator using a fridge? how do you go about doing this, and is it safe and effective? is it costly compared to a regular incubator?
-I tried the exo terra incubator for my sons when their dragons surprised with a recent clutch. Giving them their own space. It kept decent temps once you figured out the temp difference. The outside had to be set at around 91-92 to get the inside to 84-86, even in a warmer room. Once that was figured out we were able to keep a secondary temp probe inside and keep steady temps. I ended it up taking it back and just using our homemade incubator. I upgraded to a larger wine cooler and gutter it, installed an extra fan, thermostat, and heat source. It took a little work to get temps steady but Im happy with our homemade incubators, allowed for more room and better temp control. The only thing exo-terra offered that I liked was the ability to cool and heat as need.
i like the idea of making my own, because i dont want to have to worry about running out of room or anything like that, im just not so sure im capable of building my own. it seems like alot of work
Its alot easier then you would think, especially if you convert something like an old wine cooler. Hardest part is the tweaking to get correct temps, just tedious. that and removing the compressor, youre not supposed to just cut it out, should have it vacuumed and removed.
