I'm Emily Rose. I've just joined the site, though I'm not new to bearded dragons. Sometime around 8:15, I'll be departing with my mother to pick up my third beardie. My first two have both, sadly, passed away, but I'm quite excited about the hatchling I'm getting. I've been doing research on several of the lizard species native to Australia, particularly the blue tongue skink, which I may someday also keep. I'm a lover of all animals, and enjpy seeing the responses and personality of any creature.
So, now that I've got that little text wall intro done, feel free to say hi, ask me questions, anything you like! I'll be posting pics of the hatchling as soon as I can.
Thanks. I've picked up my new hatchling. He looks to be in good shape, as far as I can tell. Maybe a bit thin, but I'm not exactly an expert. He's alert, curious, bright eyed and likes to cling to fingers. :3 I've decided to name him Miguel. This is, of course, assuming he's male, which I will assume unless evidence to the contrary is found.
What do you guys think? Like I said, I'm not an expert. If anything looks off lemme know please. ^__^ He's about 5 inches long right now, from nose to tail tip. My mother, brother and I have all already fallen in love with him.
Welcome to the site. If you want, read through my care sheet (link in sig) it has some great advice for taking care of your new baby. It also has some of the best advice we give on the website when trying to help people with their beardies. And, as always, if you have any questions - just ask!
Looks fine to me, its hard to tell if they are skinny when they are that small, but as long as you are feeding him right he will start to grow like a weed!
Haha, I'm sure he will. He's started to explore his tank a little bit more now, and doesn't seem to have any trouble getting around. ^__^ I was worried it might be too big- it was originally housing a lizard about twice his length, but he doesn't seem to have any problems.
Is it normal for him to not eat much the first few days in his new habitat? He went after crickets the second he saw them yesterday but today seems to be shunning all food items put before him. He also runs from me a bit when I open the tank. I think it's probably just because of the unexpected move, but I just wanted to check. :3
Alright, thanks. It's good to know that's normal. He seems to love climbing. I had to remove a fake plant from the tank because he slept at the top of a plastic blade of grass and would've hit bark if he had fallen. Should have gotten a picture, it was so funny.
