My bearded dragon Pancake went into hiding around the last week of April, one month after she layed her eggs.
She was 360 g when pregnant, went down to 280 g after laying, and went back up to 370 once she was eating again. She is also 18 inches long now.
She has now been hiding in the tunnel she made going into the 5th week. She has been seen by the reptile vet during week 3 who did an xray and a fecal swab. No egg follicles/impaction or parasites. And she also went up to 380 grams this week, so she gained a little weight.
Does anyone have any ideas why she is doing this?? I'm re-decorating her cage and bought a light bracket to extended her light incase she was to hot.
Ps. She will not come out by herself. However, if I force her out she is willing to bask and eat but not very much.
I had an extra long T-5 (40 inch or some) which was just replaced with a compact repti-sun 10.0 (not coil) as we had a spare and I was told it shouldn't cover her whole cage. (This is temporary use as I want to install either a t-8 or T-5 inside her cage).
Edit: sorry just saw the second question.
Originally her uvb just layed ontop of her cage as it's an open top and was also longer. I just went and bought a light bracket to extended the range of her lamp cause I thought she might be to hot. It's now in the left side hanging over the large bridge I got her incase she wanted closer to it
I forced Pancake out for a bath yesterday and I bought new decor for her so I redid her cage. She is out and basking now but doesn't seem very happy with me.
She also ate between 20-30 calcium worms and 10 superworms. (2 weeks ago I could only get her eat calcium worms - and she never pooped them out????)
That is a coil-- please go w/ the T 8 - your going to have issues w/ that coil please take it back--- your T 5 was a way better UVB- what size tank ? We need to get you set up properly
Karrie
She has a 120 gal aquarium thats 35 inches long. Her basking bulb is a 150 watt.
I have only had the new UVB bulb in for 1 day. I can put the old one back up I was just told it was to long.
The vet told me is was ok to put playsand in her cage since she layed eggs and likes to dig now. Do you have any other decor ideas??? I cant tell if she is bored, to hot, or what the issue could be.
My vet ruled out impaction, pregnancy and parasites.
Although I havent had an actual fecal test done. Just a swab
Is the T 5 36 inches long- and no its not too long for a 48" long tank - in fact we recommend a T 5 for a 4x2x2 tank just not the whole length of tank -- please get rid of the coil they are no good for anything to be honest--- the sand I would get rid of too - its up to you is she digging in it --- I would take your T 5 put over the back of the tank w/ no screen basking decor needs to be 12-15 inches under it -- I am going to post a pic of my 120 gallon tank and you look at it and see what you like about it - it may give you ideas for decor etc
