Hello! I'm new to the site, and to having a beardie! We bought Eric on Monday, he is about 3 months old and he is so cute! (will put pictures up when i have learnt how).
We have been feeding him crickets twice a day as well as giving him a salad (although he doesn't really seem to touch that) but any crickets he doesn't get straight away jump off and hide on the wood that we have for him to bask on, I don't want them to still be in the vib when he goes to sleep, but they are so hard to try and remove. we only pop a few crickets in at a time too.
Any tips on better ways to feed him, or ways to remove the crickets? Also, any tips on what other live food to give him?
We've had that issue too with the crickets hiding in the little knots or crevices in the wood. We take the wood jungle gym climb out when feeding the crickets. They also love to crawl under the reptile carpet substrate, so my new addiction (besides watching Tashi hunt crickets) is to poke at any cricket attempting to crawl under the substrate...that is unless Tashi gets them first!
I've read on a few posts that if you gutload the crickets with greens before a feeding it will help your beardie eat more greens. I'm not sure how true that is. My girl loves her greens, so I've never had a problem with her eating them. I still gutload the crickets with greens for the nutrition anyway.
We've been giving the crickets the same veg that we give Eric, and yesterday he let me hand feed him some rocket, so at least he's getting some inside him that way.
