I am going to make a new viv. but i dont no what wood to use?
I was going to use MDF but i heard if it gets wet it swells up.
I also dont no what sealant to use. and is there a way to seal MDF, so that when water get it, it wont swell up?
Im also going to buy a new light fixture. a double UVB Fixture. whats the best UVB double fixture. and the best uvb lights
all so the best Basking bulb.
I know Jess uses mod podge hard coat. I have used min wax polycyclic sealer. either will work I think mod podge is a bit cheaper i think it just depense on how much you buy. I think the only wood you shouldn't use is cedar and pine? hope someone checks me on that.
I wouldn't use MDF. You are asking for problems with that. Use melamine or a nice plywood because if you are building from scratch, you should only want to do it once.
As far as sealing, mod podge, gorilla wood glue/water mix are good non-toxic sealers. In order to apply those, you would be getting your cage surface wet anyway.
I am building my cage too. I used oaks plywood and sealed it with water based Polycrylic protective finish...I read somewhere on the forum that it can seal the wood. I would like to know if that is good enough. Should I add something on top of it?
You can use MDF if it is sealed. I made mine out of MDF (which is what melamine basically is without the plastic coating) and sealed with the miniwax polycrylic. Which btw is much cheaper than mod podge.
