Helped pull shed off bearded dragons tail.

Assisted pulling of shed the other night and now mako’s tail is like this. I’ve googled tail rot and I’m not sure what to expect or get from this. He is still eating normal. He is active and plays out on floor with us. Has his normal poops daily and basks normal. It just is this. It hasn’t risen up his tail. It’s been about 6 days. Is it just skin that hasn’t came back. He is acting like normal self.

Is Mako housed alone or with other dragons? The injury doesn't look like it was caused from pulling on shed that wasn't ready to go yet, but I suppose it's possible.

Either way, the key is to keep it clean. Try using some raw unpasteurized honey on the wound to help keep bacteria away and help the tail heal. You don't want infection to travel up the tail, which it looks like it might have started.

It might be safest to take Mako to the vet and get the tail amputated a bit higher up than where you can see some possible infection, just to ensure that the infection doesn't spread and cause even more of the tail to need to be amputated.

It hasn’t spread up the tail. We marked it with sharpie to see if it is traveling up. He is housed alone 120 gallon aquarium. I don’t know what could have happened.

Hello,

That is very odd for it to have been caused by pulling shed off. Until you can see a vet, you can get
some raw unpasteurized honey or antibiotic ointment to put on the end there. It looks like it might
be a little infected but it's hard to tell.
