my beardie is around 10 months old, 19 inches. She hasn't been eating for around 1 1/2 months. She hadn't pooped in a long time so I gave her some canola oil and organic apple sauce. she let a big one out that looked normal. She ate 1 dubia and 1 hornworm in the past 1 1/2 month. She isn't impacted. I know she isn't due to the poop and vet. Her UVB is around 7 months old and is the reptisun 10.0. But I didn't use it for around 4 months because I got one of the bulbs from reptileuv.com. She was lively and everything until that bulb went out and I put the reptisun back in. Now and since the past month or so, all she does is go to her hides and sleep all day long. She comes out and basks for about 1 hr a day. I have a temp gun that reads the basking temps at 95-108 F. Her diet was hornworms and some supers. She is on tile floor. Should I put a heat pad under her hide so she can have heat during the day? What should I do? I've run out of ideas. She had coccidia and I took care of that through meds from the vet, she has nothing bad in her feces now. I bought some Nutribac df From reptileuv.com and have been giving her that but with little help. When she basks and sleeps, her colors stay bright and vibrant, but sometimes she turns dark for a while. She hasn't lost weight, but is starting to I believe. She stopped eating her greens also.(mix of collard, mustard and turnip). I'm afraid I'm starting to loose her, what should I do?
Did you contact Bobmac regarding your light? It does have a 6 month warranty to replace it if it goes out, etc. Do you know what happened to cause it to go out? Did you have it mounted at an angle or does it go straight down?
How close is the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb from her, & do you have a bright white basking light directly beside the UVB light on one side?
The Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb needs to be replaced soon then if that is what you are going to be using. Or try to get the Megaray replaced under warranty if it is not too late.
If her stools are normal, then she is probably in a semi brumation phase which is not completely uncommon at her age, really. They slow down on the eating, & don't bask very much either. Tile is fine for the substrate, that is a great choice for her.
No she doesn't need a heating pad underneath her when she is trying to sleep. That can over heat her.
The temps should be fine since you are using a temp gun.
How often do you give calcium for her? At her age, she does need it 5 times per week.
You cannot beat nature though, if she is trying to brumate there really is not much you can do. Can you post a picture of her so we can see her condition?
If you feel she is deteriorating, you should take her in for a blood test to make sure everything is going ok inside.
Everything looks fine with your setup, great job. The 4x2x2 is a good sized tank.
she just sleeps alot, and doesnt eat. poop seems ok but only 1 stool in a month. she is still fairly healthy looking, and her base of her tail is still thick, it just looks like it has thinned slightly. she's in her hid right now so ill send a pick later when she comes out, if she comes out before tonight.
well, she seems to be the same as before. sleeps most of the time, she basked a bit longer today than normal.Shes in a semi hide right now sleeping but ill get a photo of her real quick and post it. I have some hornworms on the way for her to see if she'll eat em, theyre her favorite. oh in the pic don't worry about the pad, it hasn't been turned on, just in there in case and she seems to like the padding it provides. oh and theyre finally replacing the bulb, ive been on back order for around 2 months.
she is a bit dark right now, she is normally a brighter orange-red color. And the scales along the back and head arent normally black or atleast that dark...not sure what that means
thanks, i hope she comes out of what ever she is in ok, I'm thinking once the new bulb comes in, and the hornworms get bigger, she'll come out of it, we shall see
She looks to be of good size & her tail base is not thin. She should be alright if she is semi brumating. Just watch her weight carefully & make sure she stays hydrated. Since she is cooler, their coloration changes a little when they are cooler.
Did she eat the hornworms you got for her? I hope so.
Spring is coming so hopefully she will start picking up some for you soon.
Let us know how she is doing.
My 11 month old girl is doing the exact same thing. Only comes out of her hides about once a week, only eats every couple of weeks even though she gets fresh greens every day and roaches every other day. I bathe her once a a week and she usually drinks then, but otherwise we never see her.
