he is almost a year old.
ive had him since he was 6 inches
i have a heating lamp and a UVB light
he has crushed walnut bedding (i have never had a problem with that tho)
he "normally" eats all his veggies they are his fav.
for protien he eats crickets, mealies and one in a while a pinky (hasnt had a pincky in over a month)
i spray him once a day
and he comes out of his cage about once a day for 1-2 hours
i cant think of anything else i can tell you hope this helps
What about lighting and heating? Does he have a UVB light? What kinds of heating devices do you use?
You should get rid of the walnut bedding ASAP. Feel his stomach. Are there any lumps? He may have swallowed some of the walnut bedding and become impacted. This is very serious and would require vet care immediately. Especially with younger dragons, impaction can be fatal.
If it's not impaction, he could be trying to brumate. Does he sleep during the day or does he spend most of his time basking? Brumation often leads to constipation.
Until he poos, I reccommend that you stop feeding him crickets and worms, which both have hard shells that could make the problem worse. Continue offering greens and veggies. You can also try syringe-feeding him some baby food (the Gerber brand is good; it has no added sugars or preservatives). You can add a few drops of olive oil to the baby food as well. Continue with daily baths. While in the bath, you can massage his belly; rub his belly gently with two fingers.
No matter what the reason, if he doesn't poo within the next week or so, a trip to the vet is in order.
i took Cas in to the vet and they had gave him a clean bill of health. so they suggested me to a specialist because they could see anything that was wrong. all they said was the tongue is not as pink as he would like. they also didnt even charge me because when they would ask me things about him and different things i could do i had already tried it. He said that i was the most knowledgable dragon owner they have had come in! that made me feel good but then it made me feel that i should know whats wrong with him. he STILL hasnt pooped or still doesnt like eating that much... i dont know what to do! i want to take him to the vet but my vet said that it will cost an arm and a leg. dont get me wrong i would do anything for my baby but if my vet didnt find anything wrong then what if they dont find anything? then i am in debt for nothing. i am sooooo torn!!!
Well, if the vet can't find anything wrong, it can't be too serious. I'm glad he didn't charge you.
If the vet couldn't find something, don't feel like you should be able to.
Are you sure you can't feel any impaction lumps in his stomach?
When the vet said his tongue is "not as pink as he would like it to be", I'm not exactly sure what that might mean, but it could be a sign of dehydration. Keep up with babyfoods, heavily misting salads, baths, and offering water via eye-dropper. Since you're already doing these things, I don't exactly see how your dragon could be dehydrated. But, dehydration can also cause constipation, so it is something to consider.
My Budo is coming out of an impaction bout, so I'm still giving him baths every night to make sure he keeps up with the pooing. Anyways, I made an observation; when I drip water on his nose with an eye-dropper, it causes him to poo. lol, I guess it's like running water makes people pee. It's worth a try, whenever he's in the bath. It will also help hydrate him, if he is in fact dehydrated.
