I have been ordering silkworms online, just tried the second company-the first company was pretty good, but the last few times some of the silkworms arrived stuck in the mulberry stuff and thus dead (unable to be gently pried out). So I tried a different company, and some of them are pathetically small, less stuck but still not all that great. I noticed also that the top, while perforated, had a thin paperlike covering over the holes that I got some of it off after soaking and peeling. My question is, do they do this for shipping or because the worms are escape artists? The holes dont look big enough for a worm to squeeze through. How should I be keeping them, with holes open or just as sent, and how do I get them unstuck from their mulberry goo? Pics below for illustration:

Agreed, they aren't like hornworms, the silkworms should have their food at the bottom. I personally buy them by egg typically and hatch them and grow them out that way in big tubs, but the cups should work fine too. The yare extremely susceptible to dying if in not perfect conditions, eg. too much moisture. It's ok to let the food dry a little bit, if they are big enough they will eat the drier food too. Don't add any moisture.

Agreed, I tried to moisten the food once.... once lol.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
