I’ve had Larry for more than a year, he is a western fence lizard and I caught him near a lake. He has a heat lamp, he has plenty of beetles and mealworms, plenty of place to hide and dig, and he’s been acting weird.

he randomly digs into the corner of the tank, he tried to dig under the side of his log, and this is unusual behaviour for him. 2 days ago I found these little white ovals in his tank and I’m not sure what they are. This happened last year too, but they were yellow. These are bigger than the ones last year. and yes I’m sure he’s a male, I’ve kept this types of lizards for years and I’ve never had this issue. Please help, I’m really worried about him! are these eggs?? ive never kept a female or any other lizard with him as I was afraid they’d hurt him. Here’s pictures!

to anyone who tries to help, thank you so much you don’t know how much I appreciate it
im worried about my little Larry boy :((

i don't know a single thing about fence lizards. that being said, if this was a beardie, i'd say you actually have a female and those are infertile eggs.

and don't worry about asking for help. the only bad question is one that is not asked. the more questions the better!

Looks very (!) much like eggs.
Also the complete behavior - lizard did it last year, digging - is so much "eggs".
You claim "male", what makes you so sure?

I had fence lizards myself, but a different species. They lay eggs even if infertile. And the appearance (coloration of the skin etc.) is never a 100% indicator.

I agree with everyone else. That is eggs. Looks like Larry might actually be Louise 😉🙂
Btw I would LOVE to see more pictures of him/her 🙂

Google pics of male fence swifts and then female. The underside is very different.
The Eastern from back home are the same. The males have a really blue belly, the females much lighter.

Yes. I also could not think of anything else looking similar that comes from a lizard, and then the behavior, and how the lizard looks like.
The only thing that might be in an enclosure and that would look similar (on a photo) are some varieties of corn, but then they would know what they feed feeder insects inside a (bioactive) setup and also should be easy to rule out when seeing it live and not on a photo.

i don’t know how to wrap my head around that, that’s so weird d\to think of him as a female, but i trust what you all say, im just glad there’s no underlying issue with them 😭

I was so sure he was a male, when I caught him, he had the brightest colors on his stomach and throat, and he still does (they just got a little bit dull because of my heat lamp/light situation) so that’s why i assumed that 😬

But of course in this case the eggs are the REAL identifying factor. 😁
In todays world I'm not sure we are still safe to assume that lol.
It might be that his lizard identifies as female even though he is a male and laid eggs to prove it 🤔 😏 😄😄😄
(I mean there is a ton of trans beardies after all) rofl 🤣
Yeah I know it's in bad taste but I just couldn't help myself 😉

I can feel her staring into my soul demanding food
She was having a staring contest with a mealworm. I guess I never taught her to not play with her food, lol.
