This morning my 6 month old beardie Crooke threw up half digested crickets there was about 3 heads and 6 legs (sorry to be so graphic)
then he seemed fine alert active and was asking for food he had already eaten his squash and veggies so I gave hime 7 crickets (he usually has 12 a day) he ate 3 and was fine then about half hour ago he threw up one cricket head.
He has been pooping fine and there is no change in his behaviour
he is in a 40 gallon tank
the lighting is all correct and temps (I have researched on here and changed things accordingly)
he is not on sand
Are the Crickets smaller than the space between his eyes? It is important not to feed too large of feeders. Also I would go ahead and get a new batch of crickets. And lay off the crickets totally for a few days. Try feeding soem baby food liek squash, carrots, peas you can feed from a baby med syringe. Where do you buy your crickets from? Please check out Reptile Food.com they are really one of the best places. Some people rec. Mulberry but I have found Reptile food to be alot better. They also test their crickets every few months for parasites etc.
Hi and thanks
yes the crickets are smaller than the space between his eyes. I have already been out and got more crickets as these were from a different place from my normal shop (who by the way for a pet shop are fantastic as everyone that is there owns reptiles....there advice matches that on here)
I wont be going to the other place again.....do you think it is worth taking him to the vet or wait to see if he throws up again.
I'm galde you got new crickets. I would just lay off of them totally for just a few days just to make sure his tummy doesnt get upset again and let it rest a bit. Live crickets are normally just fine yes, but just let his tummy settle for a few days. Pick up some babyfood like I said squash or carrots, peas you can also do bb chicken make sure it is chicken and a veggie not cerial or something. If you buy the chicken mix it with some bb food squash otherwise stright can make him constipated. You can also put a little bit of diluted pedia lite in the mix as well. Use a bb med syringe and dap some on his nose and he should lap it right up. He maybe inclined to latch on to the syringe if he does squirt small amounts into his mouth at an angle, no down his throut so he doesn choke. They will let go when they have a mouth full. About 1cc is good to start, but give him as much as he will eat, start with 1cc at a time every few hours is good.
Keep an eye on his stool, if his stoll continues to be really runny and smells really foul, you will need to take a sample of the poo in to the vet and have a fecal. You dont need to take your acctual dragon in because it cost more just a stool smaple.
