First off, I would like to say hello to all and make a little introduction! This is my first post on here but I have been using this site since I became a beardie mom to my lovely Reginald Geraldine Oct 30, 2018. When I got Reg she was about 7 inches long from Petsmart and they couldn't tell me how old she was. She was very malnourished, but I just had to get her! I went into the store not knowing exactly what reptile I was going to get but I had all the stuff from my late long-tailed Lizard Rex (rip homie). When I saw Reggie she was enclosed with two other beardies and was so stressed ): she ran right up to the glass and followed me when I walked up to her and I couldn't leave without her. I had no idea bearded dragons had so many needs but it has been such a fun and rewarding journey having her and we are now living our best lives! The reason I'm making a post is because Reg has grown like crazy since I got her and she's getting crowded in her tank. I have acquired a larger tank (13"L 48"W 21"H) and was researching some set up options before I move her over. I have been using repticarpet up to this point, but am looking into other options. I also recently discovered bioactive environments and would greatly appreciate any and all information on them! If you could share your experiences, what works best for you, and include any photos of your lil guys' homes it would be very much appreciated and maybe some pros/cons to going bioactive and any recommendations on substrates/tiling as well. Thank you in advance!
I tried carpet but quickly hated it. Hard to spot clean.
I use linoleum now and it’s been amazing. Easy to buy, easy to replace if I ever need to, easy to fit as only need a ruler and a craft knife, easy to spot clean as it’s like spills on a kitchen floor and I think it looks great too.
The self adhesive types are not safe as the glue on the back isn’t - but the kind on a roll that you cut to fit yourself is great
The Lino I use has a slight texture to allow more grip and it’s a sand look colour
Here’s Marlow’s vivarium
It shouldn’t really need replacing as you can wipe spills off it the same as you do on bathroom or kitchen floor no gaps for bugs to hide in either.
You should be about to buy per meter ( or the equivalent measurement used most over there) , I purchased 2ft by 4ft as my viv is roughly that size and I just used a craft knife to cut a small strip off as it was slightly too big to fit to fit inside my boys viv
I brought a cheap garment steamer as my boy had coccidia when I adopted him and steamer is the best thing to treat their viv and decor with when they have that so even though he’s better now I still use the steamer to clean everything including the linoleum- so it’s nice and easy.
I’m in a different country so the shops I have available will be different but any sort of home diy supplies store would have it
