HELP! New Beardie Owner Possibly Purchased with YF

I bought my beardie on 09/14/2024 from PETCO. I loved him from the moment he followed me through the glass. However, he had this black spot on his back that I thought was due to shedding. However, I am not worried that it is actually yellow fungus. He is a baby they said anywhere from 6-8 weeks. I have not taken him to the school yet as I am worried my students will get attached and something awful will happen to him. We would all be devastated. His enclosure at my house is small but my students parents funded a HUGE habitat for him so living space will be fine. I just bought him and to have him be sick immediately is not something my teacher budget can afford if he is truly sick. The internet said AWFUL things about YF!

Is there a cut or wound on the spot in the back - it looks like shed coming on around it? What size tank for the dragon he is too little to be going into a huge tank -- he needs smaller space for now -- what are you using for a UVB coil or long tube fixture and how are you getting surface basking temps? No stickons they are inaccurate --

he is in a small tank now. About 25 gallons. I have a small digital humidity and temperature thermometer.

As far as lighting I’m using the fixture that came
With the Juvenile reptile kit. It’s a mini dual fixture. 100w heating bulb and a separate UVB bulb.

It does not look like a wound just a crusty dark spot in the middle.

Ok see if you can get a better pic of the back -- it looks so fuzzy not real clear--- the coil UVB needs to go -- for a 25 gallon I recommend a 24" Zoo Med w/ a Reptisun 10.0 T 5 bulb but your going to need to unobstruct the fixture meaning NO screen and get the 22" Reptsiun 10.0 T 5 bulb - you can set the tank up like what I had my 20 gallon tank pic is posted for you to see ---75 watt on the end using a clamp the UVB was a 24 inch fixture Zoo Med -- distance should be 12-15 inches directly above him -- you are going to want to use the digital probe to get accurate surface basking temps 105-110--

We need Tracie to look at this-- I would get your tank set up w/ the proper lighting and surface basking temps -- this is crucial in this little ones life--- what are you feeding and are you giving supplements?

unfortunately the kit you get from Petco is inadequate and just about a recipe for how to kill a dragon. KarrieRee is the one to work with on lighting. if it is the same kit bought by the person I rescued sir henry of scales from, make sure you are also not using the blue or red lights. they are horrible for bearded dragons. they need it dark and cool at night.

Meal worms with the calcium dust.
Please NO meal worms the exoskeleton is too harsh on their stomachs-- please start feeding fresh salads
Nutrition Content ignore the kale info its outdated and a good staple feeder- please start feeding either crickets dubia roaches BSFL or silk worms-- I recommend dubia roaches and BSFL - the BSFL can be used as lures to the salad bowl use 20-25 on top of his salads first thing in the morning-

It probably is the same kit. I got it for free as it was part of my teacher grant from PetCo.

What are you using for a basking bulb? He needs a solid bright white bulb that keeps temps of what I posted earlier-- Flukers basking -- Arcadia Halogen-- and Exo Terra Intense bulbs are good but you need the digital probe thermometer to get that temp
