Serious not eating problem.
I have had my beardie Rocky for about 3-4 days now. He was eating crickets the first couple of days, never got into the veggies I was giving him but I thought that was because he was just a bit nervous in his new home (still think he needs time to get used to them). I think that could still be it, but I have literally taken almost everything out of his tank so it's him and 5 crickets and he is ignoring them completely! I am placing him in front of the crickets and he doesn't even budge. The crickets will literally walk all over him and he doesn't even seem like he notices. Something is definitely wrong.
It could have to do that with the last couple of days, he has been sitting under a Reptisun compact that I got in a beardie kit at Petsmart. Today was the first day that I took the bulb out after finding out all of the harmful things that it can cause. So this is his first day without UVB light and also without the Reptisun compact. So I'm thinking that he is just a bit off right now..... But not eating is just scaring me. I was already worried about him not eating his veggies and now he won't eat his live feed.
He ate about 3 crickets today, but that's it. He has only been eating about 6-8 every day since i have had him. He just seems to bask allllllll day long and not bother with the crickets unless they were in front of him, except for today.
I'm really worried but should I just give it time because of the compact light possibly causing some problems and weird behavior? I ordered a linear Reptisun 10.0 so that should be here by Friday the latest I hope.
Any advice or ideas or similar situations?! Any feedback is much appreciated!
Since it's only been 3-4 days since you got him, it may just be re-location stress. Some beardies take a week or so to get used to their new home and they don;t have too much of an appetite. Be sure to keep him/her hydrated by using an eyedropper, spray bottle [ for gentle spraying on the snout] and short, lukewarm shallow [ supervised] baths.
Thank you both so much! It feels good to hear that from two different people because I am really hoping that that is the only problem. I actually have reptiworms coming in the mail right now so I am hoping he will like them. I think I am just being a bit impatient. Probably because a coworker of mine adopted a beardie the same day as I did, also a baby, and she said her's is eating and exploring and loving life, so it seems. So I think my Rocky just needs some more time.
Thanks again
He is the same. Tried giving him a little bath but he wouldn't let me put him in the water so I held my hand in the water and his little feet and belly were touching it for a few minutes. But he wasn't happy. Then I took him outside to soak up some UVBs and he didn't quite like that either but we stayed out for about 20 minutes. I think he just didn't like being in the container. He wanted to run around.
As for eating, still nothing really. He ate I would say 3 pieces of kale. At least that's all I saw him eat. He is currently basking, as always! Reptiworms should be here today or tomorrow. And tonight I am going to pick up a few more crickets anyway just to see what he will eat. Praying he loves the worms!! Haha
Thanks for asking! I'm hopin he adjusts to his new environment soon. His behaviors make me nervous.
