Hi, I just noticed my bearded dragon spicys nail has come off she otherwise healthy-eating drinking and running around- it seems clean-no blood or anything- I didn’t notice it coming off at all so it’s been a bit of a shock. I haven’t had any issues with her before so I’ve got no idea what to do

If possible please don’t advise visiting a vet or lizard doctor because we are on a low budget and also live remotely about 2.5 hours away from a lizard vet.

Plz help

Hello,

That can sometimes happen. Do you have a hammock in the tank that she may have caught it in &
ripped it trying to get it loose? This is pretty common with hammocks.
You can get some raw unpasteurized honey to put on that area. It should help it heal up pretty well. If
the nail bed was damaged the nail may or may not grow back.

Yes we do have a hammock that she loves to play in she’s also quite a vigorous digger so she might have hurt it like that.

I’ll definitely try the honey tomorrow but she’s asleep now it like 8:00whre I live and I don’t want tp wake her ☺️

I’ve noticed that her beard and belly are showing more stress sings that before, so I’m worried she might be in pain. Is there anything I should look out for?

Thanks for the advice and reply and sorry for all my questions Mila

Hello Mila,

It is very possible she hurt her nail on the hammock, it is pretty common. We usually recommend
getting the smooth felt type of fabric ones that they can't snag their nails on so easily.
Also, they definitely can hurt them digging, too.
It might be causing a bit of pain, since her beard is a little darker.
Are you using the raw unpasteurized honey on it yet?
Keep us posted on her.

Hello!

Great to hear there doesn't seem to be any infection going on so far. I hope the hone continues to help out.

Tracie
Yeah it hasn’t grown back yet but it’s healed to a stump and doesn’t look to be infected at all ☺️ thanks so much for your time and concern tracie

Hello,

Oh poor girl, her nail did fall off. Maybe it will grow back, eventually if the nail bed wasn't damaged.
It doesn't look infected which is good!
Thanks for keeping us updated on her!

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
