Heavy sigh. My 12 year old brought home a tiny - 3" including tail baby beardie home. She already has a beardie which she's had for about 2 months and it is about 9" long including tail which we believe is a female. I'm afraid if we put the two of them together the big one will eat or kill the little one. Naturally we don't have separate tanks or anything. I showed the little one to the bigger one and the big one kind of looked at it, opened its mouth and than scurried off. Am I right that they shouldn't be in the same tank? And can we put them together when they are the same size?
I could cheerfully wring the neck of the pet store owner.
Thanks!

Beardies should not be housed together at any age, if the little one is put together more than likely the older one will eat it or kill it. They are very territorial animals and mine(which is a male) attacks the mirror every time it sees it self. I would either take the one back or get a separate cage for it. best of luck.
Are you in the UK? If you are report the store owner, I thnk the law is that the child has to be 16 to buy an animal there or if its 18. I mean you cant wringe his neck but you could make him loose his license. Other than that I can only say separate tanks or bring the poor little fella back. And I totally understand you. I used to work in a petstore back home in Sweden and we would refuse to sell unless it was to an adult. Not only for the responsibility but for the sheer wellfare of the animal. That man dont know anything if she is equipt to handle a beardie now that she was allowed to. People like that should be hung by their toenails!
OK lets not just assume the pet store owner just sold a child a dragon.
He may of just given it to the child. There still are nice people out there.
Now to the issue at hand, as someone already posted a baby will be eaten by a larger dragon. You will need seperate tanks through the whole life of each dragon.
Good luck and other nice things that dont come to mind right now.
You can use a plastic container for now with a basking bulb for heat. I used a lamp once. You will need to get it a UVB at that age and size they really need both. You will have to buy the small small feeders for it aswell.
I understand your position all to well... My youngest daughter brough home a beardie and said suprize mom thats how we got our first it was a scramble for me to get all the things she needed at that time. Just take a deep breath and use what ever you have around the house for now. Intill you can find it a new home or buy all the things the little one will need.
Yes a pet store owner sold a baby beardie to a 12 year old (for $80). He also told her she could just put it in the tank with the larger beardie. When we introduced them I got that funny feeling and didn't like the way the bigger one was looking at the little one and immediately separated them and went online for some answers. Can they really never be together? I have seen lots of pictures of them housed together so just assumed that when they were the same size it would be ok. Our bigger one is a female.
