We have been having a bad heat wave where I live and the inside of my house stays at like 85. Rey's enclosure is 36x16x19 and I have a 100 watt bulb and it gets way to hot for her so my question is would it be OK to not use her basking bulb for most of the day?
Can you give her time outside of her tank? Maybe some time roaming the house or looking out the window? She'd be OK with that ambient temp for quite a while. If you can raise the basking light up or dim it with a lamp dimmer it may help too. It's really tough to fine tune the outputs when the weather is changing though so just do your best and keep a close eye on temps and take her out if it gets too hot. Overheating can be quite dangerous. I'd still want to make basking light available as well as UVB light but if it's not possible to keep it safe then going without while the heat wave goes through shouldn't be too harmful. If you can bring her outside for a bit of natural sunshine that may be helpful too.
