I replaced my old household bulb today because the temps it was giving were too low. Now the reptile bulb I bought is giving temps too high. It got to 110F after 6 hrs, this is way too hot for a 5 year old, right? I'm thinking I need to go down on the wattage.
Edited to add:
60 watt household halogen only got it 95F over the course of 12 hrs
75 watt regular household only got it to 85F over the course of 12 hrs
100 watt Zoo Med got it to 110F in 6 hrs
We need to know a little bit about the setup. What's the enclosure size. Where is the heat source located and how far is it from the basking area. Where is that temp taken in the enclosure and by what?
The solution could be as simple as lowering/moving the basking area to get the right temps. Or you could attach a dimmer to the light(heat) source and turn it down a bit.
