He did WHAT??? You mean THE Zym who HATES ANYTHING GREEN (that isn’t a hornworm) WILLINGLY ate his GREENS???
It was feeding time for Zym, but it wasn’t a bug day. So what do I do? Make him a salad with collard greens, celery leaves, and some shredded carrots. He never eats it, but I always want it there in case he does. I decided to try something new (not really I tried it in the past and it didn’t work) but I put some bee pollen on the greens and used tweezers to bring it up to him. And…? HE WAS INTERESTED. He used to turn away or close his eyes at the sight of greens! For a while I’ve been making his salad with a mixture of dragon fuel, bee pollen, calcium powder, etc. Today a hint of bee pollen on its own was enough. It was a game changer and hopefully he keeps going. I tried some positive reinforcement as well and gave him half of a blueberry for his good work.
For perspective, Zym has already been stubborn when it comes to greens. I’d have to trick him into eating it with his bugs or blueberry but that wasn’t enough. Now I have a greater hope! Maybe the fat shaming from my sister got to him… (he is on the chonkier side and we are actively trying to get him to lose weight. Lots of exercise and greens!) No matter what, I’m happy he is eating his veggies. Who would’ve known seeing a lizard eat some leaves would make me so happy! Never give up when these stubborn little guys give you attitude!
