Just have a few questions my bearded dragon Zeus is 11 months I've had him for 6. He is about 550 g last time I weighed him about a week ago and now is not eating as much as before. He would eat 10-20 super worms per feeding and now maybe one or two at the most. Stays under his log or on his hammock but away from his basking area. He has coccidia and worms when I got him but then was cleared and healthy but now I don't know if their back or if it's brimstone or something else. But I can grab the skin on my baby and I know that's not healthy I always bathe him the skin comes right back when I pinch it but there's just loose skin hanging on him. I am taking him to the vet after work today but just wanted some opinions?
Hi there....some dragons do a slow down this time of year, hiding + becoming lethargic. That can be totally natural and just a phase Zeus is going through. It may be just that or may be related to having parasites. 550 grams is a good weight for a 19-20" dragon, so if he's in that range he's fine. If he's over 22' it's a bit light so the weight is only relevant when the length is considered as well. Do you know his length ?
I will check his length tonight when I get home from school, and the vet was to busy today so I have a 11:45 appointment tomorrow. Just always makes me nervous when he stops eating. Especially because I can grab his skin in all 4 fingers.
Does he appear to be losing weight then, or just seems a bit dehydrated?
I agree, a lot are going to be starting to slow down here real soon for seasonal changes/brumation.
At Zeus' age, it is normal & his weight is good also. They will reduce their eating quite drastically.
Let us know how his appointment goes. Hopefully his fecal count will be fine as well.
I measured him he is 18 1/2" and 550 grams. And he hasn't pooped so I can't being a fecal I'll have to return with one bc I bathed him twice yesterday to make sure it was dehydration I have been bathing him all week trying to let him poop and he hasn't because he hasn't been taking in any food so hopefully right now we're walking in so hopefully something but with no fecal I don't think much can be determined
So I went to the vet without the fecal that will come in a couple days hopefully. He told me that it was an upper respitory infection. When he examined his mouth and throat his throat was almost like bulging out of his mouth. And so inflamed and irritated so he said that was probably the reason for the no eating. So I got antibiotics and feeding him baby food which is fine bc I had to once before when I first got him he had coccidia and he takes to it well!
