My adult female beardie is WAY to into worms! I'm currently day 2 of starving her (only offering greens or nothing). Well she still doesn't eat her greens and I'm not giving in cuz she is a little on the over weight side! Not to mention as an adult beardie she needs 70% greens in her diet!
The issue is the same day I stopped feeding her mealworms and only offering salad, she has stopped pooping. It's now been two days and I'm getting worried! I don't want to give in cuz she will continue to act like a brat with her salad, yet on the other hand I would rather her be eating if this is causing her any harm!
I also checked her Temps and levels and everything seems fine there, and she is acting just like her old self, but mind u I have only had her for 3 months, and asking her old owner if there is greens she prefers is impossible! I keep trying to change up greens, she gives it two (trys/smells) and just closes eyes cuz she knows it's not a mealworm.
Do I keep starving her till she gives in and finally eats her greens, or do I say screw it and feed her worms, just not as many and not as often?!
How old is your lady? I don't think you'll hurt anything by offering salads only for a while... I had to do that with Figment, when all the other ways people suggested to get him to eat salads failed. Going a couple of days between poops isn't totally abnormal.
Have you tried putting some worms like BSFL actually in the salad? Some people swear that works (didn't with me; he just rooted through and picked out the worms).
One thing that DID work for was grating up squash rather than cutting it into cubes, and mixing it up with the arugula I was using. I think it released more odor that way, because my boy really seemed to like it.
That is always a challenge when they hold out & become picky with their foods!
You can definitely continue to hold out on her worms for a bit but just watch her weight to
be sure she doesn't lose too much weight. Have you tried mincing up brightly colored berries
or bell peppers to mix up in with the greens to see if that will entice her?
You can try mixing a few worms up in the greens too if you would like.
Well she is eating slowly sum greens, yes I tried mixing in bugs to actually salad, grinding them up, and even putting them in just liquid ish food like mixing em with jam.... I finally started slowly give her a couple greens, witch she totally ate the most she ever has last night. I then rewarded her with two worms and she went right to basking bulb before I tucked her in.
(Yes she will fall asleep anywhere and so I have to pick her up and put her in her hide, which I don't mind cuz it actually totally cute lol.) I just call it my nightly tucking in my child for bed lol.
But still no poop yet, but I did read that if there isn't enough fuel there won't be a poop which makes sense lol. She seems to be her same happy self. (Or at least content)
Ps: I measure her and with her being female I suspect she is from 8 months- 1.5 years
YAY, as of this morning she did the most "look what I did, dad!..." type of poop ever!! I thank y'all for the suggestions, mainly it was a relief knowing I was doing everything I was suppose to! And that I wasn't alone in caring for such a picky beardie. I also learned something new about my dragon, which is ALWAYS a plus!
I won't be posting to this thread after this but again thank u for all who took the time to help me with my issue! This site is honestly a must "bookmark" for anyone that owns a bearded dragon!
