Our beardy, Bozley, has recently started pooping out long, hard, pale sausages. It feels like a stone and when you break it in half it's white and chalky looking. After some investigation on previous threads we thought maybe we were giving him too much calcium so have really cut back but this hasnt helped at all. He's a bit constipated with it, which is not surprising with this stuck in his poor tummy.
he's fine in himself, still running around like a happy chappy and is not off his food / water.
i am totally at a loss and would be grateful if anyone can offer tips.
He's a little over a year old. His diet is crix, plenty of salad and the occasional wax worm as a treat. his temps are fine and his bulb was uv bulb is relatively new.
You could try giving him Pedialyte or water through an eyedropper. We started doing that a few months ago and it really helps. Nero never drinks water from the bath and hates every second of bathtime. We still bathe him - they absorb water through their vent - but I think the oral fluids help more than anything, along with cutting back on calcium. Sometimes I put calcium or vites in the water because Nero is off his food due to the season (semi-brumation).
I also just raised his MVB to lower basking temps to 95 - they used to be 103. I can't believe I didn't think of doing that before (duh) and hopefully that will stop Nero's recurring dehydration issues. Maybe doing that will also help your baby.
What kind of time frame are you talking about, as it does take a little bit of time for hydration status to improve dramatically. If the urates were literally rock hard, then, you are looking at several weeks for them to soften up.
What kind of calcium supplementation are you giving & how frequently were you giving it?
Does your dragon eat enough vegetation & do you give oral fluids or baths regularly?
