So, lately whenever I put crickets into Charlie's tank, she will only eat a couple and go up to her basking spot (her sign that, okay. I'm done). The other day, I accidentally squished one trying to get it out of the tank, and when I showed it to her she ate it right up out of my hand. Tonight, she did the same thing, only ran after a couple crickets, but I wanted to see if she'd eat out of my hand again. Well, she did. She ate somewhere between 5-8 live crickets out of my hand (I held them between my fingers and she ate them up). I'm not complaining because before she would run away whenever my hand was in the tank.
I figure that this is just her being a spoiled little princess. I do spoil her...(Every night when she falls asleep, I gently pick her up and tuck her into her little blanket and she stays that way until morning) But I would love to hear your thoughts.
Hand feeding is OK, I'd do what you can to make sure she is eating enough. Do be careful that she doesn't start to associate your hand with food and accidentally bite your finger. If that happens, you might try some feeding tongs/tweezers or encourage her to hunt on her own at that point.
My guy won't eat anything unless it's moving. This morning the crickets weren't moving enough for him, so I was grabbing them by a leg and dragging them back and forth in front of his nose. He ate them, and I also managed to sneak in a few pieces of collard greens. Little guy was enjoying his "dinner theatre" show!
