On the place I buy BSF from they have a new "jumbo" size one which are from 3/4" to 1" and I was wondering if it was okay to feed these to my bearded dragon? He is about 11 inches long and is about to be 5 months old. I was thinking it would be okay since they have no shell and are easy for the little guys to digest.
I think 5 months and 11 inches is perfectly normal. I got my baby at around 6 inches a month ago and he's already over 8 inches long. He is about 4 months old but was in a 10g tank with 20 other beardies until I got him so I think he's getting a later start. Its very circumstantial with these guys.
As for the BSFL, I think the jumbo size is probably ok, but I would be worried about how close they are to turning. I don't have any experience with BSFL but have done quite a few hours of research on the topic in hopes of finding a feeder to breed while the baby is growing.
Yeah I was thinking about that too. I guess we will see when they get here how fast they start to turn into flies. Hmmm. If it becomes an issue, I'll just go back to the "large" ones. I'm planning on keeping them in low temp wine cooler (around 65) to try to keep them kinda dormant and see if it helps them to stop turning
