Ok so some of you might know that i have a Beardie named Charlie, who i rescued, ive had him for over a year now i think & his prob 2-3 years old...
Anyways his quite hard to take care of, buying crickets every second day is not the cheapest and buying veggies all the time is not either... as much as i love him, i'm thinking of giving him to the reptile park, they will take great care of him and will be able to provide him with crickets when he needs them!!
The only problem is that i'm not sure wether to do it or not, i REALLY love him and i would be so sad to do it but his costing quite alot...
Im very busy with school and exams so cleaning & feeding is hard when i have homework nearly every night, do you think i should do it??
I also tried breeding crickets and it didn't really work, if i could breed them, then it might save me alot of money, oh and one more thing... Charlie is getting a little angry at me, not sure why, i pick him up everyday when i can (if someone has some advice then that would be great)
buy feeders online.. it's so much cheaper.. have you tried superworms? you can get 1,000 supers for $18 + shipping cost at http://www.greatlakeshornworm.com Supers live for a long time (up to 8 months) and are easy to keep... than you can supplement some feedings with Dubia from http://www.dubideli.com where you can get 300 7/8" for $23 including shipping... if you don't both of those, you will have feeders for at least 3 - 4 months especially since he's an adult..
I literally spend Under $2 on greens each week, and that's for 6 dragons. My Mustard greens this week were $.16 Collards $.58 Turnip $.45 and dandelions $.35 and that will last me a week... I shop at a store where you can by them buy the leaf and not the bunch! gotta love it.
I find myself working odd shifts at work and sometimes am not home for Pablo. But, what I do is pre-make a salad the night before work, and that way in the morning I can just pull it out of the fridge instead of having to cut it up, etc. I also do this if I work the night shift when I get home at 8am, so I can just pull it out and stick it in his tank before I go to bed (otherwise I know I'd be too tired to do it). My beardies lights are also on timers, so if don't get off work until 11pm, they'll automatically go off and Pablo passes out on his blankets. I agree with the above poster about feeding supers. They are very cheap, you can feed every 2-3 day, and 50 are only 5.49, which last me over a week. Just don't feed too many at a time, as they are fattening. I hope you decide to keep him! I'm sure he would be much happier with you than somewhere where he wont get as much human interaction one on one. Pablo even perks up just when I'm in the living room where his tank is.
I agree with the roach and super feeders. They last forever not like crickets that die so quick. Crickets are a PITA
Money issues i get also, so i started breeding roaches and supers in Feb. By May i was self sufficient. Havent bought a feeder since
I also planted greens in pots on the porch.............so besides the off butternut or fruity treat, greens cost me nothing also
And its a LOT healthier for the beardie too as you KNOW there are no pesticides and other chemicals to affect them on the greens and the feeders dont have all the nasty petstore parasites
I was thinking of feeding charlie repti-worms & dubias but I live in Australia & so far I have not found any sites that sell them... Thanks for trying though
As for planting the veggies in little pots, I think is a great idea, I never thought to do that ( I shall pick some seeds up and give it a try) oh and making salads before school sounds like a good idea too!!!
I'm going to try all of this and before I make up my mind, I'm still stuck on what to do with the crickets though???
Thanks everyone!!!

Oh I wish I could find a store around here that I could do the same thing with. I have to buy in bunches and they go bad before Draco can eat it all.
Feed them lobsters!? you can feed them that??? Lol i didn't know that
Oh we also sell woodies here but i heard that you can only use them as a treat, is that right?
Im going to check now for other food sources i can use, hopefully i find one
EDIT: i just googled super worms and they look just like mealworms, but i'm guessing that they are not the same???
Oh and i heard about repti-worms.com, there repti-worms are so cheap but i'm pretty sure they dont sell here

I know what you mean, even with two dragons the bunches still go bad before they can eat all of it.. Maybe I'll have to start having the same salad for breakfast?!

No, mealworms and superworms are totally different. Mealworms have harder chitin and are harder for beardies to digest... also they have little to no nutritional value unlike the superworms... supers can be fattening, so I think feeding 20 - 25 supers a week to an adult beardie is more than enough.
Hey, thanks for the worm chart
I've been searching for Supers and i may have found a good site that sells them, they seem trust-worthy, i just need to see if they ship here (Fingers crossed
I have just been on http://www.herpshop.com.au, they sell super worms and roaches, just wondering if the supers are correct??? Lol I don't know a thing about supers so I just wanted to check before I buy, thanks!
EDIT: I have been reading about supers, apparently there not really safe? And you can only feed like 2-3 a day, is this right??? Should I still buy them, they are very expensive so I don't want to waste money if not needed...
Oh & about the lobster roaches, can they be a main food (instead of crickets) as I have found some of them, nice and cheap and I might be able to breed them easier!!!
Don't go to the store to buy your feeders...buy online it is so much cheaper. I just bought 1,000 crickets for 27 altogether and that included the price which was 15 and shipping which was 12 and that your beardie shouldn't be going through as much as a baby or subadult should anyhow.
