So, I was in our local fish/reptile store a few weeks ago looking for Superworms and saw that they have something called "Super Mealworms." Now, I've heard of "Giant Mealworms" and from my understanding they are NOT a good feeder. However, are the "Super Mealworms" the same as a Superworm? She said they are but I don't trust her word. Obviously, I don't want to give something to Mango that isn't optimal so I'd like to know, are Superworms also referred to as Super Mealworms?
There are a few sizes of the mealworm and it can be quite confusing for sure. Yes, the superworm is the largest of the mealworms, but has less chitin, which makes it a great feeder for the adult beardies.
Most pet stores carry the regular mealworm and the giant mealworm. These are the ones that have the harder exoskeleton. These mealworms also need to be refrigerated... this will be your first clue to stay away from them
What you want is the "King" mealworm also known as the Superworm(Zophoba Morio). These have a softer exoskeleton, making them easier to digest. The King mealworm or Superworm needs "No" refrigeration.
Hope this helps
