My son's pet hamster died the first day of school (no one knows why) so my son told me he wanted a pet that didn't die for his birthday. I calmly explained that eventually all pets die, after crying for a few days he has decided he wants a leopard gecko for his birthday, so we will be picking one up for him either Friday or Saturday.

Geckos are new to me but I have been doing a TON of research. He really wants two, but I'm having trouble explaining that no he can't have 2 boys in the same cage. You know the whole girls are icky thing.

We will be getting our gecko(s) from a pet store since his actual birthday is Saturday. We went looking yesterday and he found one that he liked it was a sub adult male that seemed healthy and curious. He held it and proved that he was okay with it.

Of course right next to the leos is this really cute crested gecko . . . so now I'm pretty sure that I would love to have one especially after holding it. My gecko will have to wait until a reptile expo though, because I'm not paying the pet store price.

I will be sure to post pictures of our new family member as soon as we get him. Thanks for reading just wanted to share that we will soon be welcoming a new pet. (eventually mom's crested gecko as well but that is a whole other thing LOL)

Now he can't decide if he really wants a leopard gecko or not. He thinks he might want something else we are taking him around again tomorrow afternoon to see if he finds something he wants. Wish us luck!

Have you considered perhaps his own beardie ? One that is older, of course, even an adult. I am sure with all the folks on here, that a suitable older dragon can be found.
Just trying to help ;)

With the 6 we have now he could have had his pick, with the beardie eggs in the incubator, he could have had his pick.

He decided on Leopard Gecko though, we managed to find a male sub-adult in a pet store near us. He is about 8 months old, he is 7.5 inches long and weighs in at 38 grams. My son has named him Polka Dot Stripes. Here are some pics of his ride home.

OMG Polka Dot Stripes???? Is your son related to my boys by any chance??

LOL he is constantly naming animals like that....we have a white Peruvian Guinea Pig (guinea pig with long white hair) and Corbin wanted to name him "Long Fur". They wanted to name our dog, "Brown Eyes"

My oldest son wants a Uromastyx and he wants to name him "Mr Spikey Tail" LOL kids are too funny!

Oh and Polka Dot Stripes is 100% adorable!!

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
