So I am 'adopting' a 8 month old beardie from my friend who cannot take care of him properly. I was hesitant to take him, but she needs someone to take him. I have lots of things that I need to change in the set up. I'm gonna get him a megaray (she has him under a coil right now...so I have an extra repti-sun 10 tube light and fixture from Dudlee that I will get him under until the megaray comes.), get him a new enclosure (he is in a 30 gallon now, so gonna upgrade to at least a 40 gallon breeder), so I will have to put tiles in the new enclosure, most likely new furniture, etc.
My real question is about quarentine (sp?). I need to wash my hands between the two beardies, but simple things like...do I need to change my shirt if I hold both of them? Stupid question...but I would like to know!
They are never going to see eachother. Dudlee is finally feeling better, and I really dont want her to get stressed out.
Is there anything else I need to know about owning two beardies??
I'm somewhat new to owning beardies (my Harley is coming up on 6 months old) but in mid September we took in a rescue (he's 3 years old) who has/had some issues (yellow fungus, very stiff and seriously underweight) and to prevent any problems, after handling/caring for our new beardie (Remy), I changed my shirt, scrubbed my hands with medical soap and used a hand sanitizer before handling Harley or any of our other herps.
I want to add, I went through all that because Remy was a rescue and had health issues, if your new beardie is in good health with no problems, I don't see the necessity to go through all that .
As a rule you should use a hand sanitizer between handling of separately caged beardies, and of course after completing any contact visits. No need to change clothing unless there is direct contact with an active fungus or infection.
