My beardie is about 9 months old and is kinda turning into a bit of a chunk. I have modified his diet to what a vet recommended (he had a bad case of tail rot that was solved with a round of antibiotics because nothing else was stopping it) which was fewer crickets (around 8-10) per day or every other day and a big salad first every day with minimal fruit and lots of leafy greens. While he is growing properly he still just has a bit of a belly that often touches the ground. He has no trouble lifting himself up or moving around, he's just a bit chunky and the vet said he was a tad overweight.
I do give him baths almost every day where he gets to swim, but I am looking for a way to let him run around more without losing him under my dresser and shelves in my room. Has anyone used a playpen type of containment or even tried a harness and leash to take their beardie outside or anything? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I am just looking for another safe way for him to be able to run and be out of his tank. Please let me know
Do you have a picture of your dragon we could see?
Do you get him out daily for him to run around the house, etc for exercise? I would
recommend getting him outside of his tank so he can have daily interactions & get
some exercise.
Crickets are great, so you can continue feeding those. If you can, you could probably
reduce the protein a bit more, but not altogether since he is still growing. It sounds like
he is doing a good job of eating his greens, so reducing a few insects here & there should
not be a problem at all.
Looking forward to seeing pictures!
