I found a GE heat lamp 125 clear bulb (R40). I have a juvenile bearded dragon. Is this bulb appropriate to use for a heat/UVA source?

Thanks!

recommended uses from GE website

GE 48069 125-Watt R40 Heatlamp, 1-Pack, Features and Benefits: GE's specialty bulbs offer innovative solutions for a variety of lighting needs. Use it at home to heat small areas of the bathroom and workbench, or to prevent freezing of water pipes, car radiators and pumps.

I am hoping others will agree if you use this you will cook your beardie. If in doubt use a proper heat lamp from a pet store or online pet store. If you cant find one for now use a clear house hold light bulb, until you can get a proper one. However you should also be using a UVB light source as well to naturally produce vitamin D3.

The top basking area on one side of the cage (closest to the light) should peek between 100 - 105 degrees for adults and 100 - 110 for babies - with the ambient cage temperature on the other side of the cage being significantly cooler - approximately 80-85 degrees.

The bulb that will work for you depends on the size of your tank and the environment around it. Really all you need is a bulb that puts out a bright clear/white light and sufficient heat to get your temperatures where they need to be (can be a regular household lightbulb, no need to buy a specialty "heat or basking light" - the only specialty bulb you need is the UVB one). I had a 75g aquarium with a screen lid and I used 75 or 100w flood light bulbs depending on the time of year. All you can do is experiment and figure out which bulb works in your situation to get the temperatures right
